Ultimate Comics Armor Wars #3
by Warren Ellis and Steve Kurth

I absolutely love this comic. Let it be said that I am no Iron Man fan, never have been. I'm not a big robot or guys in robotic suits kind of guy. The only thing I ever really liked about Tony Stark was that he was an alcoholic but that's always been played down in the regular Marvel U, something for him to be ashamed of but that didn't really affect anything besides that one story line. The Marvel Universe Tony Stark always seems stiff and boring and after Civil War, a jerk and traitor to his people. Now the Ultimate version I can get behind, a charming, slightly insane, genius drunk obsessed with weapon tech, women and of course, booze. Mark Millar finally got him right in the Ultimates, Warren Ellis perfected him in Ultimate Comics Armor Wars. Now dialogue makes a book for me and Warren Ellis is the king of arrogant, self important dialogue. Actually its like reading how Warren Ellis writes on his site. Tony is brash, arrogant and freak'n hilarious as he banters with friend and foe alike. Steve Kurth's art fits the characters and story line perfectly, he makes suit of armor battles exciting.

Ultimate Comics Armor Wars picks up right after the Ultimatum event, which I honestly thought would start the death rattle of the Ultimate universe. Quite the contrary as I think all the current Ultimate titles outshine their previous series. The previous issues of Armor Wars have found Tony searching for an important and mysterious box in the ruins of his underground base in Manhattan. There Tony finds Justine Hammer, daughter and flawed super-powered test subject of the deceased Justin Hammer. The meeting is cut short by the Ghost, a criminal using stolen StarkTech to craft his own suit of armor who of course makes off with this mysterious box.
