The New DC 52…Now with more Bats than the World Series!

I have previously mentioned (ok I may have only posted this about an hour ago...but it was in my head on paper for quite some time before that) the new 52 intitative started by DC (pulling all their ongoing titles off the shelves and starting with 52 numbers 1’s) and having read quite a few of the new titles I faced the dilemma of where to start with reviews… So I was quite happy to chicken out on that when I realised that there was something else I wanted to bring up first.

Batman

52 titles all being launched at the same time, all at number 1 allowing readers new and old the chance to get on board and start a new chapter in (or indeed just start) their comic book collection. I said I thought it was a great idea, and don’t panic this isn’t an instant retraction… it is however what I feel is a point of interest.

I will happily admit then went in comes to Superheroes I have always appreciated the “norms” over your Aliens or the magically empowered any day. Simply give me a character with a brain and a box of tricks and I’ll generally be on their side, so characters such as Green Arrow and Deadshot have always been personal favourites and of course Batman, there’s no such thing as too much Batman…

Well so I used to think, but let’s take a closer look at some of that list of new titles. You have:
Batman- “A series of brutal killings hint at an ancient conspiracy…”
Detective Comics-“A killer called the Gotham Ripper is on the loose on Batman’s home turf…”
Batman, The Dark Knight-“The Dark Knight struggles against a deadly-yet strangely familiar-foe…”

So as you can see…oh hang on wait:Batman and Robin- “Battling evil with his son Damian at his side…”

The Dark KnightAnd lest we forget…Batwoman, Batgirl, Batwing (the Batman of Africa for the unenlightened), Nightwing, Catwoman, Redhood & the Outlaws and it seems that Birds of Prey is now considered to be a solely Gotham City based crime fighting team.
