Star Wars Legacy Vol 2--Just Not the Same Without Duursema

Be sure to check out my review on volume 1 of Legacy, which can be found here. Now on to volume 2:

Don't get me wrong, the stories that comprise the first half of this book are not bad, Ostrander is a great writer no matter who does the art, but without Duursema's art, it's just not the same. Plus we don't get any Cade Skywalker, as she does the art on all of his stories.

The first half of the book is one shot stories by different artists. All would have been fill in issues between storylines when they came out as comics. From the Galactic Empire's point of view during the Sith takeover, to a Stormtrooper solider vs. solider story, to an assassination attempt on Roan Fel--these are all good stories but still throwaway in the long run. The only part of this first half that has major plot threads is the story entitled “Trust Issues”. Here we find Jedi Hosk Trey'lus (the Jedi turned into the Empire by Cade Skywalker in volume 1) being tortured by Darth Maladi for information about Cade.

We are introduced to Imperial Agent Morrigan Corde as Nyna Calixte and Morlish send her to track down Cade before the Sith can. Corde, along with another agent, track Cade to the Jedi ruins at Ossus but we see her true colors and her connection to Cade as she kills the other agent and leaves Ossus without Cade.

The second half of the book is drawn by Duursema and the stories here really are fantastic and do a great job at setting up the next big storyline. Cade has ditched Master Saizen and Master Vao, fleeing to the ruins of Ossus. During a deathstick induced force vision, Cade is visited by visions of Mara Jade Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader and finally Jedi Master K’Kruhk--who just happens to be real! For those of you that don't know, K'Kruhk was a character from Ostrander’s and Duursema's stories set during the Clone Wars that appeared in Dark Horse's Republic series.
