Captain America Reborn #5by Ed Brubaker, Bryan Hitch, & Butch Guice
The problem with this issue is that not only is it late, not only have they added an extra issue from its original solicitation, but we've already seen Steve Rogers in our time period in two different Marvel comics. So we already know he's back. I don't know why that bugs me so much because we already knew he was coming back. I think it's the annoyance of things not coming out on time and other books skipping ahead as well as the excitement of the story has been muted. Otherwise, I have no other complaints about this issue. It's a great action issue with not much actual story progression but more of a set up for the final blow out.
After quantum leaping in his own body during different time periods, our hero Steve Rogers is finally back in his own body...only to find it inhabited by the Red Skull's conscious. Steve immediately recognizes it as the visions of his own past are replace by Red Skull's fantasies of the future. So ensues a battle of the minds as Steve attempts to wrestle control from the Red Skull.
At the same time, Steve's friends--Bucky, Falcon, Black Widow, Ronin and Vision--attempt to save Steve's body from the Red Skull and his fellow villains. Crash landing in Washington DC, so ensues a battle between them all, with Crossbones leading the all new Super-MODOK Squadron which is featured in a fantastically cool double page spread. We are left with Red Skull Cap vs. Bucky Cap as Steve battles Red Skull from within. I really hope they are able to get the last issue out before Siege begins.
