Review:
Matt's Comic Picks for the Week--American Vampire #4, Green Arrow #1 and more!
What a great week for comics. After a few boring ones we get hit with some really great books. Here are my top picks for the week.

American Vampire #4
by Scott Snyder, Stephen King and Rafael Albuquerque
Are you reading this book? You really should be. Scott Snyder, Stephen King and Rafael Albuquerque are making vampires cool again--very cool. As well as giving us a fresh take on them, a slight tweak to what vampires are with a new bloodline. In this issue, Snyder gives us the first confrontation between our new American vampire Pearl Jones and the vampires of old as she attempts to rescue her friend Hattie. Naturally things go wrong as true natures are exposed. I'm really looking forward to what happens after this.
In Stephen King's Skinner Sweet origin story, Jim Book and his group track down Skinner Sweet for a final showdown. The action is fantastic and the ending has got to be one of my favorite moments in the series so far, especially the foreboding final two panels.
So like I say, buy this book. I don't care if you're tired of vampires, this book will renew your love for them and make it all fresh again.

Batman The Return of Bruce Wayne #3
by Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette
I wasn't quite sure about this title after the last issue. I wasn't sure if I liked where Grant Morrison was going. This issue took away all my worries. It's great. Morrison begins to connect all the histories and plot threads he's been laying since Final Crisis. I particularly like the bits about Batman's costume as well as new Batman and Robin's trek into the ruins of Bludhaven and the discovery of the machine Granny Goodness had put him in during Final Crisis. Plus there is no appearance of Pirate Batman (save for the cover), so while the covers are a flashback to 1990s Batman toys, the story is not. And then there's the last couple of pages. Now in the old west, Morrison sets up a confrontation I didn't see coming between Bruce Wayne and DC's most popular western character...
