Marvel Comics Picks: X-Force #24 and X-Men Second Coming Preview!

X-Force #24 is the first issue of this Necrosha event/crossover that I've truly enjoyed. Mostly because it actually feels like an X-Force issue--X-Force kicking ass and flinging attitude. Since X-Force has become an event/crossover book, it's lost the coolness that I originally fell in love with at the beginning--a bunch of psycho mutants with blades gutting the hell out of the bad guys. And not just any old mutant psychos, my favorite mutants: Wolverine, X-23, Archangel, Warpath, Elixir and Domino. Now the title just seems to be a vehicle for events and it won't stop as X-Men Second Coming is next.

But back to the point, issue 24 beings with Warpath a prisoner of Selene as she makes her bid for godhood. The members of X-Force arrive on the outskirts of Genosha and to make their way to Selene's fortress, they have to cut through a couple million techno-organic infected dead mutants. Just another day in the life for our mutant killers. As they slice, dice and blast everything in sight, Selene uses the Dagger of Souls and reaps the souls of all those undead mutants (they've never quite made clear just why she can use their souls as they've been dead but whatever, let's just get this story done). X-Force is caught in the blast wave but Telford proves to be an actual team member and comes to their rescue. We are left with the undead Thunderbird telling his brother just how to defeat Selene.

Clayton Crain's art is better than it has been in a while. Nowhere near as dark as the previous issues, looks like he's bought some other colors than black. Or at least diluted it a bit because I can actually see whets going on in each panel. Page sixteen is my favorite, showing X-Force slicing through all those undead mutants. And boy can he draw a sexy Selene.

So a better issue on all counts, plus were one step closer to the end of Necrosha.

And speaking of Second Coming, this week Marvel also gave us the X-Men Second Coming free preview comic.
