Review:
Green lantern #48 & Blackest Night #5

I decided to go with both of the these issues together because they are so intertwined. You must read Green Lantern#48 first as it leads directly into Blackest Night #5 as the rainbow rodeo come together to face Nekron and his horde of Black Lanterns.
The majority of my enjoyment of this issues comes from Larfleeze who-- as always--steals every scene he's in. Doug Mahnke's art is beautiful as always and Geoff Johns' writing is slick, but all this issue really does is set up what I believe will be the new Guardians of the Universe once Blackest Night is over.
Blackest Night #5 really amps the story up another notch. Nekron has risen and hordes of undead Coast City citizens rise up against Barry Allen. I didn't foresee anything that happened in this issue. We finally learn the use of Bruce Wayne's skull and a sinister connected between Nekron and all the super heroes that have been resurrected over the years.
You really don't see it coming and goes in the opposite direction I was thinking. Dove continues to be an important tool in the fight against the Black Lanterns as she is able to channel the "white light" capable of severing the connection between the host and the black lantern rings. Strangeness abounds as the Atom and Mera are sucked into a Black Lantern ring. And what's up with Donna Troy and the bite on her neck? All in all, a fantastic issue and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
