Why have you not read Preacher yet?

Ok, let me tell you a tale or two.

Once upon a time there was a cowboy. A man so mean and nasty that when he died his hate was so great that the lakes of fires froze over when he entered hell. To get rid of him, the devil and the angel of death partnered to make him into the saint of killers and rest beneath boot hill where would wait until needed in the real world.

He is the Saint of Killers.

But this story isn’t just about him.

Once upon a time there was a kid who was so shattered by the suicide of Kurt Cobain that he followed in his idol’s footsteps and shot himself in the face … and survived. Trying to rebuild his life afterwards wasn’t easy with a face that looked like an arse and an abusive father who was also the county sheriff.

He is Arseface.

But this story isn’t about him either.

Once upon a time there was a couple of good old boys who worked for the meanest southern matriarch in all 50 states. Worse than anything you might have seen before, one knew everything you could ever have nightmares about to do with killing and the other liked to get intimate with anything and everything, inanimate or not.

They are Jody and TC.

But this story isn’t about them either.

They are all wrapped up in the story of the ‘Preacher’.

The story follows Reverand Jesse Custer (no relation to the other Custer), his girlfriend Tulip and a hard drinking Irish vampire going by the name of Cassidy. Jesse is hit by a being by the name of Genesis (the bastard offspring of a demon and an angel) and is gifted with the word of God. If he chooses to use ‘the voice’ then any instruction he utters will be obeyed instantly and to the letter. Jesse and his two friends thus go on a quest for God, not as a pilgrimage, but to look for God himself to call him to account for his actions and sins.

The story of the Preacher’s quest takes him all across the US, with a trip or two to France, Vietnam and even the Irish War of Independence. Not to mention a couple of visits to heaven and hell which can be admired for the scenery if nothing else.
