On global print release next month, crafted by UK comix magicians...Monsters!

It's a no high concept caper paced with an assortment of rogues and paradoxical effects. The writer, many of the readers and myself and may be reminded by similarities to the classic Marvel UK comics of the 80s: Transformers, Zoids, Dragon's Claws and Death's Head. The (quirky) dramatis of mainstream Grant Morrisson grafted onto Simon Furman, darkly funny and well paced. It's easy to move by pages, if you know what I mean. To give them all the attention escapist fiction under strong direction needs. The straight-forward storytelling and the ability to convince with art but not stop the flow make this a work that perfectly suits fast reading.
Azzopardi pushes his use of greys to the background, opting for the conventional stark black and white of noir as he and Goodbrey drive a wild ride. Re-reads prompt new details or bring enjoyable re-discoveries to the fore.

It's functionality wins. There's an interesting point to make here. Britcomics' financial troubles hampered further by recession has grown an acceptance by artists that the bill paying jobs, be they retail, factory or other, take precedence. (One of the themes of Twelve Hour Shift) There's few can make a saleable canvas from the soup kitchen after all. Azzopardi's work doesn't fall far outside of professional adventure publishing standards, such as for 2000AD or Marvel. Storytelling accomplishments look just fine. Perhaps not adequate for the rigorous schedules among pro publishing and creative committees or their conventions. N/P Sean is just one of a generation of these such creators who have made the best of this lot. Monsters' route: twice-weekly updates online, regular format issues within small press publishing and distribution and package collection by AIT/PlanetLar replicates trad methods. It also circumvents them, through adapting these routes to work to creative and market forces.
