Powers #3
After a little bit of a delay, we get Powers #3. I think it's only about a month late with the first two issue shipping right on time--which may be a record for the Powers series as it is always been plagued with delays. One thing that's never been affected by its lateness is the quality of the story. With many books if you put too many months between issues, it really affects the story. Not with Powers. Powers has always been Bendis' best book and the only one that can keep the quality of the story during late issues.

Now on to the issue at hand, Detective Walker and his new partner Enki Sunrise have just arrested the daughter of an old school super hero for the murder of Z, a member of Walker's World War II super group. Now Erika's (the arrested daughter) powered mother isn't too happy about all this as her Erika is going to reveal all her dirty secrets. So begins the rest of the issue as Walker, Sunrise and Erika attempt to elude the super powered mother's attack. Oeming is probably one of the best action artists in the business as he shows here. The action is violent, fast paced chaos. Oeming can really make you feel like you're right in the middle of it. Bendis as always does a fantastic job with the dialogue as Erika berates Walker to use his powers to save them.

The last few pages gives us another great flashback to Walker's days in World War II, focusing on a character that reappears in the last couple pages of the book--and those pages are really cool. The story actually goes to the inside of the back cover of the book, that's a lot of pages and story for only $3.95--plus the promise of seeing another Powers issue in less than a month. Let's hope they make that deadline because I can't wait to get more of this story.

Batman and Robin #10
So begins the lead-in story to May's Batman the Return of Bruce Wayne. With the conclusion of the last story line, Dick, Alfred and Damien now realize that the skeleton of Bruce Wayne is not actually Bruce Wayne. It was one of the clones that Simyan and Mokkari (Darkseid’s mad scientists) made in Final Crisis for Darkseid. They were trying to make any army of Batman for Darkseid, but Bruce Wayne proved that even his memories are weapons and used them to destroy the clones’ minds.
