American Vampire #1
Yeah, yeah, yeah, this came out last week. Shush! I got behind. Regardless, this was a fantastic book and was my favorite read last week.

American Vampire is a new series by writer Scott Snyder, a series Stephen King liked so much that he asked if he could write for it. Can you imagine that? Stephen King asking to write in your comic? American Vampire is broken into two stories, the first written by Scott Snyder, the second by Stephen King himself. Artist Rafael Albuquerque draws both stories draws both stories and he's just amazing!

American Vampire is about the birth of a new species of vampires, set in the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds. The question Snyder poses to his readers is if everything else evolves, wouldn't vampires?

The first story written by Snyder stars Pearl Jones, a up and coming movie starlet who crossed path with the mysterious Skinner Sweet before sinister meeting with the heads of a movie company.  The second story, by Stephen King, tells the beginnings the murderous outlaw, Skinner Sweet.

I happened to like Snyder's story better than King's, but my co-worker Andy liked King's better--they are both great regardless. Plus, this is the only comic that Stephen King actually writes. Dark Tower, the Stand, Talisman and N are all adapted by other authors. This one is actually written by King.  So pick it up, it's great! Cowboys, old west, silent movies and vampires! How can you go wrong?

Millar and McNiven's Nemesis #1
Nemesis starts off with the bang Mark Millar promised us months ago when he started the internet ad campaign for the book. Nemesis is Mark Millar's and artist Steve McNiven's first creator owned comic together. Previously they worked on the smash hit Civil War and one of my favorite graphic novels of last year, Wolverine Old Man Logan. This is also one of my most anticipated comics for 2010, which you can see here.
