Atomic Robo, A Real Breath of Fresh Air.

"Atomic Robo, the new print comic from Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, chronicles the Action Science adventures of a robot that’s a little Ghostbusters and a little Indiana Jones crossed with a lot of Nikola Tesla.

If you’re tired of endless, meaningless mega-events and incomprehensible continuities, then Atomic Robo is the comic book series for you. Atomic Robo puts the fun, the adventure, and the optimism of the pulp era back into today’s comics."

It is not often that I come across a comic that I want to collect. I mean, I like comics, but I pick them up these days and they just don't seem to grab me. And then something new came along. First it was a series called Invincible, which was simple, new, and consistantly delivered something that I used to love about Spiderman, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what that was, and while Invincible is a great series, it often lacked something.

And then I found Atomic Robo.

It was last year's Free Comic Book day and I grabbed an interesting looking title. Hey, I love robots, and the artwork of Atomic Robo just appealed to me right off the bat. And then I read a few pages, and right away I noticed that I was laughing. Not "LOL"-ing, I was actually laughing out loud at the clever and witty writing of the dialog.

So now I own a couple of the trade paper backs, and I am interested enough to go and read the comic's web site, including a blog post by Brian Clevinger, that I believe is one of the best insights into the downturn in the comics industry, the very reason I stopped collecting them, that I have ever read.

You know, we can't just blame a troubled economy for the issues with the comics industry, there are some real problems that seem to be plaguing it.
