Aution House Update - Log#09172010i
I remember my Papa peering at his Hydroscopic Androverter for hours and hours – of course I didn't know what it was then – but I asked him why he spent so much time looking at something that already seemed to work just fine, and I'll never forget what he told me.
“Because I love it … and when you love something then you want to see it become the best it can be. Sure, the Androverter works, but it could be better – it wants to be better, but it won't get there by itself.” This wasn't the only important lesson that Papa taught me.
I once heard that we take after our parents no matter what else we do in life and I truly believe that it was my Papa's dedication to his creations that developed my lifelong fondness of Engineering. While my Papa always “made due” with what he had and forever improved upon his conditions, the truth is that sometimes a little extra bullion would have served him well over the years.
“Things” in the financial department were working but not fabulous and just like the Androverter, your gold coins want to work for you so you can be happy – they just can't do it alone.
My Papa taught me to hold onto my money but he never taught me how to plant it and let it grow.
I realized that having more gold available to me meant that I didn't have to scrounge the depths of Ulduar looking for scrap parts that might be useful. I could spend far less time picking up what I need at the local Auction House, or if I really needed to, a local Tradesman.
Unfortunately I didn't know how to make an income beyond becoming another adventurer working for the Alliance and picking the scraps off of the bodies that I killed. That sounds a lot like scrounging the depths of Ulduar to me, except that wolves and kobolds don't generally have many parts useful to an Engineer.
That's when I started looking at the Auction House. I had heard that people were making money by sending items to be bid on; in fact I had heard that some folks were making a lot of money. The problem was – I didn't have anything to sell.
I fretted about it, and took a glance at the process that I thought Auction House brokers, or Supply Agents, might possibly go through to make money. It didn't make any sense to me! I was truly overwhelmed.
