This past weekend, Alltern8.com (in conjunction with The Convention Fans Blog) had the opportunity to interview Felicia Day at Farpoint, a Maryland sci-fi and fantasy convention. Felicia Day is the creator, writer, and star of The Guild, a web series about an MMORPG guild that meets in real life and all the hijinks that ensue. She's also quite well known for her part as Penny in Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Additionally, she's an avid gamer and reader.
In the interview below, Felicia talks about some of her fandom convention experiences, what excites her the most about the next World of Warcraft expansion, her plans for future seasons of The Guild, and much more. Be sure to come back tomorrow for a report on her Saturday Q&A session from the convention!
Alltern8: Thanks for agreeing to this interview. Also, I'm really glad that you do conventions because it means a lot for all of us fans that we get to meet you guys [from The Guild]!
Felicia Day: Well you know, it's an important part of what we do. We don't pay ourselves very much for conventions, so this is part of [us] being actors. It's a web series budget. So it's really important, because we're completely grassroots, to meet people face-to-face who actually support us online. People think online is anonymous, but really it is a lot more personal connection than anything, to be honest with you, because you feel like you're really participating. We don't have money to advertise on buses or whatever, so the only way somebody cares about our show is through the online connection. Or, maybe, conventions. The people who go to conventions, I think, like our show so it's completely complimentary.
