A Review of Neverland Online: A 2D MMORPG Turn-based Webgame

Neverland Online Female Characters have skimpy outfits

MMORPGs come in many shapes and sizes. The big 800-pound gorilla is, of course, World of Warcraft. But there are lots of other MMOs that exist on a smaller scale. Some are even web based, and require no download whatsoever. One such web based MMO is Neverland Online, a “2D MMORPG Turn-based Webgame.” Unfortunately, the lack of appealing graphics, odd text translations, and frustrating combat mechanics make the game less appealing than some of its competitors.

Character Creation:

Most MMOs developers make an effort to provide customization on the character creation aspect of their game. Even small web based MMOs usually offer basic changes to hair, skin tone, and starting outfits. With Neverland Online, however, there is absolutely no character customization. The game would have a stronger appeal if players could at least make alterations to the aforementioned attributes.

There are only four classes to choose from (Ranger, Assassin, Elementalist, and Taoist). For each class, you can choose the female character or the male character, and you can't customize them. Let me just say that the female characters look like they walked out of a softcore hentai. I can't imagine what a parent would think if they saw the character choices available for this game. As a female gamer, it was instantly off-putting. I think the developers should make some immediate adjustments to the look of the female characters.

Graphics and Interface:

Neverland Online is a 2D game, and that's fine. A great MMO doesn't have to be 3D to create an engaging and fun experience for the player. I've played entertaining 2D MMOs before, but I've also seen numerous 2D games with significantly better graphics than that in Neverland Online. Even Facebook's popular FarmVille game has graphics with a more polished look. Neverland Online honestly reminds me of the Super Nintendo days. Instead of a look that harkens back to the days of sprites, the developers could have gone with a more updated style that could compete with other Flash and web based games.
