A brief statement of my 40k experience

Hello to everyone at Altern8.com! I'll begin by introducing myself and providing you with some basic background information. My name is Steve and I currently live in Toronto where I attend York University. I'm in my fourth year of the bachelor of Human Resource Management program. I am truly passionate about the field of HR, specifically due to need for professional and informative communication skills. This not only applies to the face-to-face aspects, but also electronic based communication.

One of the main reasons I seek a blogger position is to develop my professional writing and communication skills, while contributing to an online community such as Altern8's. The area of expertise I wish to contribute too is that of miniature war-gaming. More specifically, I wish to draw upon my experiences and research of Warhammer 40,000.

While in highschool during the period of 2005-2006 myself and three friends discovered Warhammer 40k. How this game had eluded us for so long is still unknown, however that is neither here or there. The game had met all our criteria:

- The miniatures looked realistic and were full of detail
- There was great variety in terms of factions and army compositions
- While there were a lot of rules to remember, most were logical and provided fluid game play throughout
- Battles could be fought between all four of us or one on one

I could go on, but those were some of the main factors that drew us in. My next dilemma was selecting the army I wished to collect. I envy some people, they fall in love with one army and passionately collect it for years. I wasn't and still am not one of those people! With the exception of Witch Hunters (sorry for the hate), I felt as though each army had something unique that I liked. It took me about two weeks to decide on an army with my mind bouncing back and forth as I could be: weird green things (Orks), gundams with hover tanks (Tau), lord of the ring in space (Eldar), etc. Ultimately, I chose the lifeless necrons! I chose them above all because of the way they looked. All of the Warhammer 40k forums and even the Games Workshop website state that ideally, players should select an army which they feel is appealing to them based on appearance or story. Secondly, I loved the idea of fielding an army that focused on quality of quantity.
